Organic pork at Hugh Grierson comes from Loanleven farm, our neighbours across the fields, 2 miles away from Newmiln farm. Organic pork is reared by the Wilson family who ensure that all their pigs are reared to organic standards to make the best organic pork. Randal Wilson ensures that animal welfare and husbandry are his top priority.
Driving along the A85 between Perth and Crieff, you can see over the fence how contented and happy the pigs are rooting around in the fine sandy soil. They are fed on grass and kept outside with complete freedom to roam over their clover meadows. This natural approach is reflected in the flavour of the meat which is sweeter than conventional pork. As the locals say a "Happy Pig is Tasty Pig".
Organic pork travels a short distance to slaughter (30 miles) in Scotland and the meat is butchered locally in Perth. This reduces the food miles our meat has travelled from farm to plate. Our organic pork is hung properly to allow for the full flavour of the organic pork to develop.
